"I was no better than dust, yet you cannot replace me. . .
Take the soft dust in your hand--does it stir: does it sing?
Has it lips and a heart? Does it open its eyes to the sun?
Does it run, does it dream, does it burn with a secret, or tremble
In terror of death? Or ache with tremendous decisions?. . ." --Conrad Aiken
A parrot! I haven't tried that. I've had several cats perched on the ledge of my tub, though.

Great line from Douglas. And a wonderful image of cats on bathtub ledges! My niece has just got a little gray tabby kitten called Rabbit, who is bouncing around the house, annoying the heck out of dignified old Thomas, their original cat. Thomas is not amused. Rabbit thinks it's hilarious.
